The Brief
Design and build a home extension incorporating 3 large bedrooms and sitting space to allow the kids to” break out” and enjoy their own space and create a better relationship with outdoor space on the ground floor.
The Result
“The home extension has transformed the building in both aesthetics and function, the children now have their own bedrooms, shower room and breakout space on the first floor level while on the ground floor the old shower room and bedroom walls were removed to create an open and bright relationship with the outdoor space. The extension of the existing roof system and creation of a beautiful hardwood deck has transformed the house into a truly functional home for entertaining and general living. Key features for the project include a breeze way on the first floor running north- south which also provides much need northern sun over the existing kitchen space below and oversized eaves to western facing bedroom. Further improvements on the ground floor include new window systems to the existing Master Bedroom which now capture the afternoon breeze and installation of a new insulated cladding system; combined with other design elements the home now has a marked improvement in thermal comfort. A new color bond roof, louver windows and colour scheme has added to the coastal theme of the home giving a holistic result.
